Dragus is a unique Romanian village whose customs, architecture and food are purely Romanian, without influence from the Saxons, Hungarians and other cultures that left their mark on the region. Dragus' sociological significance was first noted in 1929 by Dimitrie Gusti, founder of the Sociological School in Bucarest, who was a pioneer in using film for sociological research, documenting the unique lifestyle in this village. In 1969 a second movie was filmed, showing the same aspects of the village, examining how life has changed and how it remains the same. The Dragusului Festival on Sunday Oct 15 will premier the 2006 edition of this series, and unveil a new book, Dragus, Images of a Romanian Village. The festival includes a unique style of singing by the Dragus Ladies' Choir, a parade of emboidered sheepskin jackets, crafts, food, and brandy specific to the area of Dragus.
